This is Clinton

We wish you could have been with us on Saturday August to see Clinton at its finest. We saw the caring nature of Clinton that day. We held a celebration of the life of our son/step son, former Clinton Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Chief Scott Andrews.

Pastor Chris Horvath and the entire First Church could not been more helpful and accommodating as they hosted the service. The Clinton Police and Fire departments were assembled to bid farewell to one of their own. In addition to his service in the CVFD, Scott worked as a dispatcher for the Clinton Police Department (CPD) before illness forced him to retire. Former chief Gary Skau was eloquent in his tribute to their “Chief.”

As we drove through town, people pulled their cars over and some even got out and put their hands over their hearts. They might not have known Scott, but they knew something had happened to one of their own.

At the CPD Chief Vincent DiMaio had the cruisers’ lights blazing and department members standing out front at attention and saluting as their final farewell to Chief Andrews. At our final stop at the Indian River Cemetery, the CVFD presided over a very moving ceremony for the past chief. We returned to the firehouse where many hands had spent many hours preparing food for all.

So this is Clinton, where public safety is their job, but these men and women go far beyond that. Yes, they care for their own, but they also care for all of us daily. We hope that when those emergency vehicles pass by, your readers have a new appreciation for these brave men and women and say a prayer for their safety. How blessed we are to have them serving us in Clinton.
