Waiting for Rates to Rise

Interest rates are at a historic low. Because First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna, Jr., prefers to enhance his re-election prospects by not raising taxes in preference to what’s good for the town, the town will pay a higher rate of interest when it does finance the $42,171,200 agreed upon by referendum (1,631 “Yes”; 1,062 “No”) for the design and construction of decentralized wastewater management systems within the Decentralized Wastewater Management District.
