On the Backs of Taxpayers

Connecticut experienced the two largest state tax increases in history in the last few years. The rainy day fund was practically drained to close the past year’s deficit. As claimed by so many legislators, “The budget is balanced.” It may be balanced, but on the backs of taxpayers and by depleting Connecticut’s savings.

The campaign finance reform of more than a decade ago has devolved into a façade, drawing people’s attention away from back door money. Governor Dannel Malloy and the state Democrat Party just paid the State Election Enforcement Commission $325,000 in what the party termed “a voluntary payment.” The executive director of the elections commission termed it appropriately as a “significant penalty.” There is reasonable evidence to say this was a payment to avoid further investigations; investigations that would show emails and correspondence that truly violate the state’s campaign finance laws. This system is broken.

It is time to change the direction in Hartford this November and elect a representative whom the hard-working taxpayers of Connecticut deserve! We need fresh faces, integrity, and real common-sense solutions to the state’s problems. Bob Siegrist is the person we need in the 36th District State House seat. Bob will be that voice of change.
