What It’s All About

The fifth annual Run for Chris 5K was held on June 25 in Essex, attracting many runners from both in and out of state.

Thanks to the efforts of so many wonderful people who lend their support, the event continues to be a tremendous success. Special thanks go to The Town of Essex and the Essex police and resident state trooper. We were once again able to raise funds for the Chris Belfoure Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Middlesex County, the purpose of which is to integrate multicultural and foreign language programs into the schools of Lower Valley of Middlesex County. This year Valley Regional High School students benefited from a grant from the fund for their trip to Salamanca, Spain (they were exchange students and lived with the local families).

A comment from one of the participants captures the essence of what the run is all about: “I wanted to thank you for hosting today’s road race! It was not an easy course to run, but I very much enjoyed the challenge, especially at Methodist Hill. I think the race is also quite indicative of the ups, downs and flat stretches in life we all face from time to time. You have a wonderful foundation that celebrates the life of Chris, and which seeks to help others.”

We especially want to recognize all of our sponsors, without whose support the race would not be possible. These include our Gold and Silver sponsors Tower Laboratories, Ivoryton Playhouse, and Clark Group. Finally a huge shout out goes to all the volunteers who contribute their time and work so tirelessly to make the event the success it has become.

All are welcome to participate in next year’s sixth annual Run for Chris/Run for Education 5K on Saturday, June 24, 2017, in Essex!
