Took Away from the Real Purpose

What a nice parade the Parade Committee put on. The weather could not have been better. There were lots of people there to watch it, and it was well received by all. How great it was to have dedicated it to John Senn, as he has been in the Fire Department for 50 years. While being in the department, he held, at one time, the rank of fire chief, the highest position that can be held in the department. The town is very lucky to have dedicated people like John.

I do wish the parade were held on the 4th of July, rather than the 2nd of July in order to accommodate the farmers’ market. I feel it took away from the real purpose of the parade. While the National Anthem was being played, people were talking, walking around, and purchasing goods from the market vendors. The speakers could not be heard due to the constant commotion of the farmers’ market.

This parade should be to celebrate the 4th and to celebrate Independence Day, not to provide market vendors more sales. I do hope next year on July 4th we have a farmer’s market-free parade.
