Effective and Sound

Regarding the applications to the Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC) for a floating zone for property located at the corner of 81 and Route 1 intersection and the application presented by the Neri Corporation to change zoning regulations, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the PZC for concluding with what I feel are very sound decisions regarding the above-mentioned applications. While I am pro development in most circumstances (such as my newest project at 67 West Main Street), these two issues would have had a significant negative impact on the town’s character and safety of its residents, and it is refreshing to see that the town has heard the concerns of the people.

Obviously the job of any planning and zoning board is to assess opportunities put before it to evaluate whether they are in keeping with the master plan already set forth for the town; to find balance with needs versus requests; to assess safety issues among those requests; and to help maintain the value and integrity of existing properties via enforcement of rules set forth to do just that. In an atmosphere where there was much opposition for the above referenced reasons and implications that there was internal pressure to push these applications through, I thank the PZC for taking the time to fully consider all sides of these issues and taking in to consideration the voices that came before it as well.

That is the mark of an effective and sound PZC.
