Put Safety First

The June 18 fatal accident on Cedar Lake in Chester is a reminder that everyone should put safety first before venturing out on the water. Know your abilities and your vessel and don’t rely on others for your safety. Small vessels such as kayaks and canoes are very unstable and susceptible to capsizing.

Did you know that the majority of drowning victims are the result of boaters not wearing their lifejackets? Make sure that your family and friends aren’t part of this statistic. Modern life jackets are available in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Many are thin and flexible, and quite comfortable to wear.

When venturing out on the water, I encourage your readers to put safety first and wear a life jacket! Have a safe and adventurous summer.
