Very Disturbing Articles

I read two very disturbing articles in [naviga:u]The Sound[/naviga:u] this month. One was the news of the high bacteria counts and the closing of our public beaches [“Talk Brings Hope to Battle ‘Disturbing’ Bacteria at Branford Beaches,” May 19]. Branford Point is in the bottom 20 percent of all beaches on Long Island Sound for clean water (including Bridgeport, Norwalk, and West Haven).

The second disturbing article was that our first selectman wants to gut the Inland Wetlands Agency (IWA) and replace those who are trying to do follow the clean water regulations with those who would favor development over environment [“Ahern Questions IWA Review, Seeks Nominee Info,” May 25]. I have great admiration for IWA members Ms. Suzanne Botta and Mr. Daniel Shapiro for their integrity, vision, and unyielding stand for the protection of our beaches, watershed, and environment.

Branford, our children, and grandchildren are better served with safe, clean beaches than another big box store. We can get all the plastic junk we want at Walmart.
