Cornerstone of our Community

I would like to thank the people of East Haven and all those who support the Hagaman Memorial Library. The library is the cornerstone of our community. We are the heart of the town and reach out to all our citizens. In person and online, we connect people to a whole world of ideas and information.

As an employee for the last 22 years, I have come to know the people who walk in the door to the library.

Whereever you go in town, people know and respect the library. Some customers are old friends, and some are like family. Many people come to the library because they want to. We need to keep up our great reputation as a community service organization. Our library has so much potential and can grow in the years to come with the help of the people and local town officials.

Libraries educate people, libraries are the symbol of democracy, and libraries bring people together. This must be embraced.

In this time of challenges facing our state and nation, we need a place that embodies all the freedom and principles that many have fought to preserve. That place is the library.

Thomas Jefferson once said, “I cannot live without books.” In 2016, we cannot live without libraries.
