Truly Touched by the Shoreline’s Generosity

Thanks go to all the most awesome residents and businesses of Old Saybrook, the Connecticut shoreline, and beyond who came out despite cold and rainy weather to make the Connecticut Shoreline Fire Department Food Drive such a huge success for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries! At the Old Saybrook Fire Department (OSFD) Headquarters alone, we collected 2,400 pounds (out of the 10,000-pound goal at the five shoreline fire stations) of much-needed, non-perishable food as well as generous cash donations of $655 during the food drive on Saturday, April 2.

Thanks go to volunteers Nadine “Deanie” Sabrin, Karen Paul, and OSFD Support members Rich Mulvihill (assisting me from 5 a.m.!) and Bob Peterson; OSFD firefighters Tony Cronin, Ned Loiselle, Ron Selines, Rich Mulvihill, Sr., Kelsey Root, and Jackie Gearity, along with 1st Assistant Chief Tom Listorti (and his lovely wife Pam).

Thanks go, as well, to print media sponsor Harbor News/Shore Publishing; radio sponsors Full Power Radio for the live remote broadcast at the OSFD with Miss L from Jammin’ 107.7FM, and News Now 94.9FM; and media coverage from NEWS 8 WTNH and NBC CT News.

And finally, we want to say thanks for the generous donations from the following: the management of Stop & Shop in Old Saybrook, Angie and Mark from J.A.M.S.S. Restaurant of Old Saybrook for the delicious breakfast and lunch for the volunteers, and Amy Champlin from BLR of Old Saybrook. And we want to extend a big thank you to Gil Simmons, chief meteorologist at NEWS 8, WTNH, for helping out at our food drive at OSFD Headquarters.

From the bottom of my heart, thanks go to all who made this event such a tremendous success for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries.
