What Public Service is All About

We recently encountered a rather puzzling and intimidating experience with a gas-fueled appliance, a concern the manufacturer was very quick to dismiss.

Fearful of its potential to cause a fire, we contacted Assistant Chief Chuck Licata of our Fire Department with the expectation that our fear would be either heightened or mollified and in that regard, he did not disappoint.

Not only did he take the time to come by our house and observe how the appliance was working, he also made the extra effort to solicit professional opinions of those familiar with this appliance before expressing his assurance that the unit was operating normally and was doing so as the manufacturer intended.

That he took the time and interest to assuage our concerns in our minds more than meet the quintessential definition of public service, for which we are truly grateful.

By his unselfish action, he contributed positively to the quality of our lives and in the final analysis, one could reasonably argue that that is what public service is all about.

So we thank Assistant Fire Chief Charles Licata and also Fire Chief Doug Jackson for a department worthy of all praises.
