Political Clumsiness

Paul Carbo’s recent attempt to justify his political ineptness in this letters to the editor column [March 17, “Made Good on his Promises”] under the guise of praising Mayor Maturo while maligning longtime Republican activists is pathetic.

Without the group he calls “fair-weather” politicians, there would have been no second act for Maturo. They are longtime key members of the Republican Party who worked hard to restore Maturo to power and held high hopes for what he might be able to accomplish.

When those hopes were dashed, they kept the best interests of East Haven foremost in their plans and launched an internal campaign to deny the mayor the party’s nomination, a campaign that was on the brink of success until Mr. Carbo changed the rules of the game skewering the results in favor of the mayor.

So, let’s place the responsibility for these disappearances squarely where belongs: on Mr. Carbo’s shoulders. It’s his political clumsiness that has driven valued participants from the Republican Town Committee.
