Great Time for Solar

Offers to install a solar energy system on my neighbor’s house seem to come in almost every day. (My house is surrounded by large, old growth trees and has no southern exposure, so my family and I are not eligible for solar.) And while I am a North Haven resident and have served for eight years on the Clean Energy Task Force, even I might start to feel overwhelmed by all the competing offers. It’s confusing.

The fact is that it is a great time to purchase a solar system, because of three things. One, there are amazing state and federal incentives that reduce the cost of a solar system drastically. Two, installing solar allows for immediate and longterm savings on electricity. Third, North Haven has taken the guesswork out of picking an installer for residents who participate in our Solarize North Haven Campaign.

Sunlight Solar was chosen by the Task Force for its excellent proposal and respectful, low-key sales approach. First Selectman Michael Freda approved the selection, and the Solarize North Haven program was launched. Residents are free to shop around, of course, but the Solarize North Haven Campaign is a time-limited (sign up by May 31) bulk purchasing opportunity with high-quality equipment and no hidden costs. Homeowners might receive phone calls from other installers, but it’s important to clarify that Sunlight Solar is the only installation company approved by North Haven.

The best thing for readers to do, if interested, is come to a Solarize workshop here in town. These monthly workshops explain the program in greater detail. The next workshop will be held at the North Haven Library on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit http://solarizect.com/our-towns/north-haven.
