Dangerous Can of Worms

Developer Kevin O’Neill is interested in developing the old Zuwalick farm property on Marshall Road/Tabor Drive, a property that has been deemed uninhabitable for years now due to the proximity of it being next to the old Branford Town Dump.

The site is not suitable for residential property because of environmental factors, therefore it should also be unsuitable for industrial zoning. If the old dump site is disturbed, there is no indication of what toxins and the effects of the toxins will be released into the environment. There is a tremendous concern for the potential health effects on our community if any disruption is made to the previous dump site.

What was dumped on the site? For how many years? What type of materials were disposed of on the site? Are those materials currently not eligible for mass dumping anymore? Why? There are too many uncertain health-related concerns open for the purposes of developing this property.

We are very concerned neighbors of the property, some of us with very small children. With the situation going on right now in Flint, Michigan, we are more concerned than ever over the safety of our community and the dangerous can of worms Kevin O’Neill could be opening if this is approved.
