Stop This Trend

Did you know that home values are tied to quality of town’s schools? If we do not continue to provide stellar education, state-of-the-art technology, career resources, and quality athletic programs, people will not consider North Haven a desirable place to bring their families.

North Haven has a declining student enrollment trend for the past five years. Young families are either not moving into North Haven or they are sending their children to private schools. Home buyers turn to the Internet to find town data on town expenditures per pupil and test scores. The last five to seven years have seen a significant reduction in town expenditure per pupil as compared to local towns. Adequate education funding this year can stop this trend and lead to retaining best students by offering a viable alternative to private school; encouraging real estate purchases and influx of young families; and maintaining or improving house values.

I ask that the Board of Finance seriously consider passing the budget that was presented to it by the Board of Education.
