Thanks Giving in Westbrook

With Thanksgiving Day being celebrated throughout our great nation, it is a very appropriate time to give thanks to people who make a difference in people’s lives. People who volunteer substantial amounts of their time to help an organization, a town, or a community do not do so for recognition, but for the satisfaction that comes in the spirit of volunteerism.

This letter is written to give praise to and state appreciation for someone who has tremendously improved our town, our community, our schools, and our students—Maureen Westbrook. Recently stepping down as a member of our Westbrook Board of Education after 12 years, Maureen served as vice-chair for many years, and as chair for the last several years. During her tenure on our Board of Education, Maureen has been involved in the hiring of two superintendents, three principals, two other administrators, and several other key positions in the administration of our schools.

Maureen is extremely intelligent, thoughtful, energetic, and enthusiastic, yet she is also caring, practical, and realistic. She has quietly, yet strongly, steered our Board of Education through many decisions that have made Westbrook a better place, and our Westbrook schools even better than they previously were. Her presence will be missed by all. However, since she has just contributed her attendance at her last Board of Education meeting earlier this month, it is only appropriate for our community to express its sincere gratitude and to thank Maureen for all she has done.
