One of the Things I Like Most

Some things I’ve heard: Quinnipiac University has purchased some residential property on Mount Carmel Avenue North Haven; Quinnipiac University has purchased some property in the Mill Road area of North Haven; developers built an apartment building on Washington Avenue in North Haven geared toward Quinnipiac University graduate students; and there’s increased traffic in the area of Bassett Road near Quinnipiac University.

Recently there were articles printed in the New Haven Register that alluded to the fact that Quinnipiac University with its widely publicized difficulties dealing with the Town of Hamden has now targeted North Haven for its future development. As I read the articles, it also led me to believe that people in North Haven welcome University President John Lahey and the university with open arms. This is one reader who does not.

Now I’m sure that there are some people who think that this may be a great opportunity for North Haven, however the people that I’ve talked to do not welcome this development by the college at all. In fact some of them moved away from Hamden to North Haven to escape the college’s takeover of residential neighborhoods.

North Haven was recently named the sixth most boring town in Connecticut. Frankly, that’s one of the things I like most about living here.

I happen to be a Mike Freda supporter in many ways, but I sincerely hope that he and the rest of our town officials are not being wooed by the same pretenses that occurred in Hamden over the years. North Haven, let’s wake up!
