Half Measures for Saybrook’s Field

The mere fact that it took years to get a playing field in Old Saybrook should bring wholesale changes in leadership and its government. In an ad hoc manner, the new playing field, with its new cost-saving turf, is utilized by the children of two towns, Westbrook and Old Saybrook. I am told that Westbrook kids are guests and not entitled, but graced, to use the field.

It is a great thing that the field is finally complete. (Not really “worth the wait” as the sign in front of Old Saybrook High School said for years, you know you read it.) At least Old Saybrook High School’s 2015 seniors can have homecoming at home, which is more than the class of 2014 can say.

Today the non-feasance continues with half measures of a completed field and no accoutrements. At a recent youth football game, we were subjected to sounds worse than fingernails on a chalk board (if anyone knows what that is anymore). The public address system is torture and needs to be replaced. Looking across the new field, we got to see a non working and useless scoreboard. The scoreboard should be fixed or replaced. Need I say something that really hurts? Like Madison is better. Take a trip to a ball game there and you’ll know it.

At least I was lucky enough to meet with the new winning season high school football coaches, in their office at McDonalds! High school coaches should have an office at Old Saybrook High School.
