Background in Finance and Education

The policy, personnel, and resource decisions made by the Board of Education set the foundation for our children’s future; a great teacher, challenging curriculum, and productive learning environment can make a big difference. My background in both finance and education prepares me to address board issues while advocating for our children and taxpayers. My name is Suzanne Sack, and I am seeking to fill a seat on the HK Regional School District 17 Board of Education.

I am proud to be the product of a public education and work vigorously to keep it accessible for others. I graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Oswego with a B.A. in business, was president of the student body, and served on various Oswego committees, interacting with professors, administrators, and the local community. I currently serve on the SUNY Oswego Foundation Board as a member of the investment committee and co-chair of the Possibility Scholarship.

Over the course of 25 years, I worked at three financial services firms and ultimately in the role of regional president of a private bank. While working full time, I earned my M.A. from Columbia University’s Teacher’s College. My experience and education built competence in the areas of strategic/business planning, budgeting, personnel management, team leadership, problem solving, and decision making. Now retired, I would I would like to use these skills to help our community and school district excel.

Locally, I serve on the Cable Advisory Committee and Killingworth Women’s Organization, and have chaired several projects such as the Community Conversation on STEM as well as others, many of which benefited the Killingworth Library, the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company, Youth & Family Services, and Helping Hands.

I ask for your readers’ votes on Election Day, Nov. 3.
