An Extraordinary Level of Collaboration

In many ways, writing a letter to the editor is easy. We the public, risk very little expressing our views, yet enjoy a position over those elected officials who offer themselves and their work up for our judgment. We often thrive on negative criticism, which appears entertaining to write and read. However, the unpleasant reality we readers must face is that in the grand scheme of things, even the tiniest issue generating the contention is probably more significant than our criticism designating it so.

There are times when the public truly risks something and that is by endorsing new ideals, ideals such as requiring both the public (political parties included) and elected officials to make decisions without political attitudes, content, or bias. As the minority selectman for the past four years, I’ve experienced something new, unexpected, and refreshing—an extraordinary level of collaboration among the Board of Selectmen, moving the town forward irrespective of political party affiliation. Working alongside Carl Fortuna and Scott Giegerich for the past two terms has proven to me Carl and Scott have done—and will continue to do—what is best for the town. I encourage your readers to continue supporting them in the November elections.

Earlier this year, I chose not to run again this November, allowing for more time with my family. It’s been a wonderful experience and an honor, serving your readers as selectman for the past two terms. I thank them for that opportunity.
