In Good Hands

I thank the scores of people who encouraged and supported my decision to enter this election and serve again on the Clinton Police Commission. The Republican Town Committee Nominating Committee decided not to support my election, however, therefore I’m writing to encourage your readers’ full support for two candidates who share the same philosophies and practices that I encouraged in my eight years on the commission, mostly as chairman.

The candidates are Phil Sengle and Peter Niles, highly qualified and dedicated servants wanting only to do what’s right for Clinton and providing for a Police Department that’s both a pride to our town and a model amongst our shoreline communities. I’ve worked with both of these gentlemen and can safely say our town and department are in good hands.

When Phil and his wife Linda moved into Clinton in 2009, he jumped right into supporting our town, filling positions in the Fair Rent and Planning & Zoning commissions, running for first selectman in 2013, and currently serving as chair of the Police Commission. As a veteran, Phil has championed many veteran events and chairs the Veterans Committee at the Westbrook Elks.

Peter and his wife Elaine moved to Clinton in 1978 and he’s been an active parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church since. Peter retired after 38 years with International Paper Company and Mohawk Paper Mills, having held several management positions retiring as northeast sales director. Peter is past president and has been a 30-year active member of the Clinton Lions Club. He’s currently a serving police commissioner seeking re-election. His passion for the Police Commission came after completing the Citizens Police Academy.

These candidates are diverse in their backgrounds and extremely qualified to serve on this important supervisory board. I encourage your readers to join me in supporting them.
