Dedication and Commitment

For more than 10 years, Old Saybrook has discussed building a new police station. Multiple building committees failed over the years for a variety of reasons. The town finally, in 2014, started construction on a new facility.

As with construction of most public facilities, a building committee had to be formed. I chose Dan Moran to chair the committee because Dan has extensive construction experience from his prior job with the State of Connecticut. Other members were Lee Sparaco, John O’Brien, Jerry Brophy, David Wight, Vito Savino, I. Ben Aiken, Patrick Maher, and Carol Hanover. Countless hours of meetings, phone calls, emails, and “heated discussions” finally led to the opening of this facility in April 2015.

Now, as we wrap up the punch list and a few warranty issues, Dan is still on board offering his time and expertise. He does not get paid and does not get enough credit. I know how much time I have spent on this project, but that is part of my job. Another part of my job is to properly recognize volunteers in our town for their service on our boards and commissions, which takes them away from their families, usually in the evening.

Thanks go to all the members of the Old Saybrook Police Building Committee. Without their dedication and commitment, this piece of town business would not have gotten done. And a special thanks go to the chairman, Dan Moran, for the time he spent on this complex building that will serve our town for the next 50 years.
