Finishing with a Kick

The eighth annual Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore April Fools Race benefitting tutoring programs for area residents came in like spring this year—a little slow on the starting blocks, but run in beautiful weather and finishing with a kick. Racers from all over New England and as far away as Minnesota participated in the festivities and broke out of a winter that was way too long.

Any event’s success is always due to people and organizations coming together for a worthy cause. We are especially fortunate to have an extraordinary combination that made this year’s event a rousing success. Special thanks go to The Clark Group, our title sponsor. Its generosity reached new heights with the sponsorship, which included the first Dot and Erl Nord Memorial Backward Mile race. Tower Laboratories and Twin Networks of Westbrook answered our call with Gold Sponsorships, and AAA Refrigeration with a Silver Sponsorship this year. Special thanks to Bob and Madge Fish for their sponsorship again of the awards for our racers.

A huge thank you goes to Race Director Elizabeth Steffen, who worked so hard to make this event come together. We greatly appreciate the generous assistance of our office staff, our many race volunteers, and the crew from Fast Track Timing and all those who contributed food and baked goods for our racers.

Finally, thanks go to all our racers and all those who brought “spring” to the race and the cause of literacy.
