Enthusiasm, Energy, and Determination

When Tom Vicino won his 2012 race for state representative for the 35th District, he came to the office with years of experience in town governance and successful business ownership. Campaigning that season, he knocked on doors in as many neighborhoods as he could. He attended countless events in Killingworth, Clinton, and Westbrook, asking people how they were doing and what their biggest concerns were.

Evaluating what Tom learned during those conversations determined the House committees he would serve on: the Commerce Committee, the Planning and Development Committee, and the Committee on the Environment. His legislative work consistently reflects those concerns.

Regularly in contact with the towns in his district, Tom has kept on top of current issues and foreseeable needs. Very assessable to his constituents, he has opened government up to them by convening important public meetings. He brought the state Economic Development Commission to his district for public discussion and held meetings designed to help people navigate the new health care programs.

Vicino invited the public to meetings with the state Department of Transportation as he fought for the Route 81 bus line. It is Killingworth's first regularly scheduled public transportation. Beginning in Madison, it runs to the Middlesex Medical Center on Old Saybrook Road and on into Middletown.

"It's a good time to be in public service because there is so much work to be done," Tom says of his job with the same enthusiasm, tireless energy, and persistent determination he brought to his first campaign. I encourage your readers to join me on Nov. 4 in voting to keep Tom Vicino on the job as state representative for the 35th District.
