Help Hungry Families

After escaping from communist Cuba, my family had to rely temporarily on community soup kitchens to make ends meet. Those soup kitchens helped to get my family through a difficult period in their lives. I was brought up recognizing the value that our soup kitchens and pantries provide to people in need.

The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries provides approximately 900,000 meals each year, serving residents of Essex, Chester, Clinton, Madison, Old Saybrook, East Lyme, Lyme, Old Lyme, Killingworth, Westbrook, and Deep River. On Oct. 12, I was proud to run in the Hartford Half Marathon to raise money for this great cause. With help from so many, we raised more than $5,100! That money will get stretched very far to help hungry families in our region.

This holiday season and throughout the year, I encourage your readers to consider donating either money or time to help Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries. Call 860-388-1988 to help. No one should go hungry. Together, we can stem this growing crisis.
