Best of the Best

We have an amazing school system and wish to thank some of the many high-impact teachers for our son's success graduating as a member of the National Honor Society and going on to Cornell University as a Traditions Fellow.

At Walsh Intermediate School there was Carl Seely, who captured all of Dan's interest in history with insightful and often silly antics, and Elizabeth Taylor, who was the teacher who first sparked his love for science.

At Branford High School, Tommy Chen and Amy Okamoto further nurtured his love for science, spending many afterschool hours on special science activities and general advice. Bing Miller asked us, "Is it alright if I push him, make him re-write things if I believe he has more?"

Jim Petela's AP U.S. history class taught Dan that not everything comes as easy as science and math do and encouraged him to join Model Congress. Dan succeeded with Model Congress in many ways-he won awards, he learned how to speak in public and how to make intelligent and well-thought-out arguments, had experiences, and made friends he may never have had without it. Sharon Shirley (who we call the best teacher he never actually had) and her room were a place that he could always go to take a breather if the day got too hectic; she supported him and gave him wonderful advice. Helen Elpherina, physics teacher extraordinaire, recognized something special in our son and encouraged his talents. She allowed him to learn in the ways that were most beneficial to him with her unwavering belief and support, which allowed him to flourish.

These teachers are the best of the best. We have many outstanding teachers in Branford and salute them all for their tireless and endless dedication to our kids.
