Charitable Nature of Citizens

As chairperson of Deep River's Community Health Committee (CHC), I am privileged to lead a first-rate group of volunteers. One of our main jobs is to fund and maintain our town food pantry. No tax dollars are used for our endeavors; we rely strictly on donations.

In the nearly two years since this committee was formed, the CHC certainly hasn't been disappointed by the charitable nature of our citizens. Groups that have provided food and funds range from church groups to drum corps to local businesses of all types; car cruisers, sports teams, police, civic organizations, and residents.

Sometimes, I think people are unaware of who is paying attention. Your readers should know that their generosity does get noticed by the CHC members, the town's elected officials, and employees?but their efforts are most appreciated by the people whom they help. Our Deep River Food Pantry shelves are usually well stocked, thank goodness, and that's due entirely to the efforts of our citizens. As we head toward the colder months and the holiday season, we're confident that we'll continue to have your readers' help. We thank them-one and all!
