Will Set a Precedent

A meeting of the Deep River Planning & Zoning Commission was held on July 19, at which time the proposed expansion of a business [Centerbrook Sales] located on Grove Street-a dead end street within a residential area now classified as Village Residential-was discussed.

The existing building is currently 6,600 square feet, which is now well over the new maximum allowance within the district. Because the building was built in 1955 and purchased in 2007 by the current owner, the square footage as it now exists is not an issue. However, it is now proposed that a new building with 8,400 square feet be erected on the property and a new parking lot for 10 cars be added. This parking lot will require the filling in of 3,920 square feet of wetlands on the property. It will require that several trees would need to be cut down and the wetlands be filled in to accomplish this action.

The addition and filling in of the wetlands will change the existing landscape in this particular area forever and will set a precedent for other property owners who would also like to expand their property or business if located within the village residential district-wetlands or no wetlands.
