Continuing Preservation Work

Have you ever wondered why some Deep River homes have historical plaques with names and dates? The Deep River Historical Society has the answer.

Deep River residents have known for years that the town is blessed with many beautiful historic homes: Colonials, Victorians, and Capes are scattered throughout the town. But now it's official: The State of Connecticut has provided funds to document this rich architectural history and the first phase of this project has been completed.

Tod Bryant, project historian of Heritage Resources, will talk about the 150 homes which have been documented and members of the Architectural Heritage Committee of the Deep River Historical Society will look ahead at the continuing plans for continuing this preservation work.

I encourage your readers to join the celebration of this milestone for Deep River on Friday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carriage House at 245 Main Street. They can enjoy a glass of wine and some hors d'oeuvres and meet and talk with the owners of these historic homes. Ticket reservations ($25 in advance, or $30 at the door) may be made by contacting Jim Hogan at 860-391-2354.
