Branford Road Race Draws Nearly 2,000 Participants

Hartford residents Ben Lanza and Nancy Montemerlo were the first-place finishers for the 5-mile state championship when the 42nd annual Branford Road Race took place on Father’s Day. The Branford Road Race consisted of a 5-mile road race, a 2-mile fitness walk, and a 1-mile family fun run. Nearly 2,000 runners and walkers participated in the festivities on the Branford Green on June 19.

Lanza pulled away in the last mile to win the men’s competition for the 5-mile event with a time of 25 minutes and 8 seconds at the Branford Road Race. Timothy Karsinov of West Hartford followed closely with a time of 25:13 to finish in second place.

Montemerlo ran a time of 29 minutes and 43 seconds to comfortably claim first place in the women’s race. Anna Shields of Harwinton took second place by crossing the finish line in 30:07.

Jacob Van Del Pol of Branford finished first in the 1-mile family fun run with a time of 5:57 at the event. Cristiano Suppa of Branford placed second with a 6:02, and fellow Branford resident Saige Fries was the first girls’ finisher at 7:01.
