Valley Crew Earns Some Firsts at Emerson Regatta


The Valley Regional crew program turned in a solid performance when the Warriors competed at the Emerson Regatta in Middletown on June 5. Valley’s varsity girls’ 4 boat and mixed 8 boat both finished in first place at the meet, while the Warriors also saw one of their seniors take first place in an individual race.

Senior Zach Kirla came in first place for Valley Regional in the boys’ 1X race at the Emerson Regatta. Valley’s varsity girls’ 4 boat of junior Erin Brennan (coxswain), senior Brooke Lavigne (stroke seat), senior Alexis Massey, sophomore Mika Carlin, and sophomore Kayleigh Mackenzie (bow) also posted a first-place finish at the meet.

The Warriors’ mixed 8 boat also claimed first place at the regatta. The mixed 8 boat featured freshman Oliver Rotella (coxswain), junior Matt Roscoe (stroke seat), freshman Tristan Smith, junior Emily Mezick, freshman Abby Jones, sophomore Nate Barton, freshman Owen Coutright, sophomore Millie Gardner, and sophomore Maddie Morissey (bow).

Valley Regional’s varsity girls’ 4 boat of sophomore Avery Sacks (coxswain), sophomore Audrey Counter (stroke seat), junior Elissa Hill, sophomore Maddie Morissey, and junior Sam Brookhart-Bardelli (bow) finished in second place at the Emerson Regatta. The varsity boys’ 4 boat of junior Quentin Baron (coxswain), Kirla (stroke seat), senior Ian Mackenzie, junior Matt Roscoe, and senior Michael Marino (bow) also earned runner-up honors for the Warriors.

Valley’s mixed 4 boat of Baron (coxswain), Kirla (stroke seat), Mackenzie, Lavigne, and Massey (bow) finished in third place at the meet. The novice girls’ 8 boat featuring Sacks (coxswain), sophomore Maeve Brashears (stroke seat), Jones, Mezick, sophomore Chloe Clark, sophomore Millie Gardner, and two rowers from Middletown High School also took third place on behalf of Valley Regional.
