North Haven Senior Legion Off to Stellar Start

The North Haven Senior American Legion 19-U baseball team began the 2022 season by winning its first three games of the campaign last week. North Haven claimed a pair of victories versus Milford and earned a win over New Haven to start off the year with a mark of 3-0.

North Haven notched a 3-1 road win over Milford in its season opener at Foran High School on June 13. Chris Tobin picked up the win on the mound by pitching 6.2 innings for Post 76. Tobin allowed just 1 unearned run on 4 hits to go with 5 strikeouts in the victory. Shaun Murray came on in relief to retire the final batter of the game and secure the win for North Haven.

Derek Novicki went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base to pace the North Haven offense. Manuel Lopes went 1-for-3 with a double, Murray was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Will Sullivan also went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run for Post 76.

The following day, North Haven hosted Milford and won the contest by an 8-2 score at DeMayo Ballfield. Mortali picked up the win by pitching 4.1 innings for North Haven, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Ryan Bauman threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to finish off the victory.

Declan Finkle went 3-for-3 with and 2 RBI to lead the charge for Post 76’s offense. Tyler Signore went 2-for-3 with a run, 2 RBI, and a stolen base; while Novicki was 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and 2 runs. Tyler Harger went 1-for-2 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and a stolen base; and Murray went 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored.

Then on June 18, Post 76 played a home game against New Haven and won the matchup by an 8-2 score. Bauman took the start and threw 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the victory, striking out 4. Novicki worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for Post 76. Murray pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game, allowing no runs, to slam the door on the win.

Murray also went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, while Sal Giaimo was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for North Haven. Harger went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run, and an RBI; Lopes went 1-for-1 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and an RBI; and Mike Brandt had 2 RBI.
