Three Throwers Compete for Nighthawks at State Open; Rudikoff Plays in Individual Invitational

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The North Haven boys’ outdoor track team sent three athletes to compete in the State Open Championship at Willow Brook Park on June 6. Senior Cole DeCusati and juniors Ethan Anderson and Yousef Gebril represented the Nighthawks in last week’s State Open meet.

Anderson claimed sixth place in the discus for North Haven at the Open. Anderson launched a throw of 144 feet-7 inches on his way to placing sixth in the discus, scoring 3 points for the Nighthawks that put them in 50th place in the team standings.

Anderson went on to throw the discus at the New England Championship hosted at Willow Brook Park on June 6. Anderson finished in 28th place by posting a distance of 129 feet-11 inches at New Englands.

Anderson had previously finished second in the discus at the SCC East Sectional Championship (127-20), took third place in the SCC Championship (130-9), and then finished fifth at the Class MM State Championship (132-2).

Gebril competed in the shot put at the State Open and took ninth place with a toss of 47 feet-2.75 inches for North Haven. Gebril had recently won the shot put at the Class MM State Championship with a throw of 48 feet. Prior to that, he finished second in the event at sectionals (44-10) and was seventh at SCCs (43-0).

DeCusati finished in 21st place for the discus with a distance of 119 feet-7 inches on behalf of the Nighthawks at the State Open. DeCusati had taken first place in the discus at sectionals (143-4), placed fifth in SCCs (124-0), and then came in third place at states (143-8).

Boys’ Tennis

Senior Ben Rudikoff represented the North Haven boys’ tennis team when he competed in the Individual Invitational Tournament was held at Wesleyan University from June 6 to 10. Rudikoff played Rohan Suryawanshi of Westhill in the first round of the invitational and took a 6-2, 6-1 loss in the contest.

Rudikoff played No. 2 singles for North Haven during the 2022 season. Rudikoff’s efforts helped the Nighthawks qualify for the Class M State Tournament while finishing the year with nine victories.
