Stettinger Takes 2nd Place in Javelin at State Open

The East Haven outdoor track program sent three athletes to compete at the State Open Championship at Willow Brook Park on June 6. Junior Alice Stettinger and senior Morgan D’Auria represented the girls’ track team with Stettinger finishing second in the javelin for the Easties. Junior Dom Salato competed in the javelin on behalf of the Yellowjackets’ boys’ track squad at the State Open.

Stettinger posted a throw of 125 feet-10 inches on her way to earning runner-up accolades in the javelin at the State Open. Stettinger only finished behind Shea Greene of Weston, who won the event with a throw of 151 feet-2 inches.

With her performance in the javelin, Stettinger scored 8 points that put the East Haven girls’ outdoor track team in 29th place in the State Open standings. Stettinger also competed in the discus and finished in 17th place with a toss of 98 feet-10 inches.

Stettinger went on to compete in the javelin at the New England Championship that was hosted at Willow Brook Park on June 11. Stettinger finished in 15th place by recording a throw of 107 feet at the New England meet.

Stettinger had recently taken first place in the javelin at East Haven’s three preceding postseason meets. Stettinger won the javelin at the SCC East Sectional Championship (120-1), the SCC Championship (122-2), and the Class M State Championship (120-5), marking the second-straight season that she finished first in the event at sectionals and states.

D’Auria competed in the triple jump for East Haven at the State Open. D’Auria finished in 12th place by achieving a distance of 34 feet-3.75 inches in the event.

For the boys’ team, Salato came in 12th place in the javelin at the State Open Championship. Salato recorded a throw of 148 feet-11 inches on his way to placing 12th for the javelin. Salato had previously finished first in the javelin at the SCC East Sectional Championship (158-10), took third place at the SCC Championship (158-4), and then claimed first place at the Class MM State Championship (154-11).
