Morse Competes for Morgan at Individual Invitational; Track Teams Represent in State Open


Boys’ Tennis

Junior Joseph Morse represented the Morgan boys’ tennis team when he competed in the Individual Invitational Tournament that was held at Wesleyan University from June 6 to June 10. Morse played Sebastien Lowy of Hand in the first round of the invitational and took a 6-0, 6-0 loss in the contest.

Morse, who played No. 1 singles for Morgan this season, had recently competed in the Shoreline Conference 1-2 Singles Tournament, advancing to the championship match of the bracket. Morse earned three-straight sets victories to reach the Shoreline’s 1-2 singles final, where he lost a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 decision against Nic Wyskowski of Valley Regional.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

Senior Cameron Johnson competed in the 400-meter dash on behalf of the Morgan boys’ outdoor track team when the State Open Championship took place at Willow Brook Park on June 6. Johnson finished in 21st place in the 400 for the Huskies in the State Open meet.

Johnson crossed the finish line with a time of 52.08 seconds on his way to placing 21st for the 400 at the State Open. Johnson had recently claimed first place in the 400 at the Shoreline Conference Championship (51.53) and then took fifth place at the Class S State Championship (52.11).

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Morgan girls’ outdoor track squad saw its 4x100 relay team take part in last week’s State Open Championship meet. The Huskies’ 4x100 relay turned in a 21st-place finish when the State Open was held at Willow Brook Park on June 6.

Morgan’s 4x100 quartet of junior Logan Pernal, freshman Olivia Ruotolo, sophomore Glenda Zhiminaciela, and junior Caeley Ayer recorded a mark of 52.27 seconds in their 21st-place performance at the Open. The relay had previously finished third in the Shoreline Conference Championship (52.95) and then placed fifth at the Class S State Championship (52.20).
