Rams’ Girls’ Track Places 4th in Shorelines and States; Boys’ Team Also Competes at Both Meets


Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Old Saybrook girls’ outdoor track team posted fourth-place performances at a pair of recent postseason competitions. The Rams finished fourth at the Shoreline Conference and then came in fourth place at the Class S State Championship, recording first-place finishes at each of the two meets.

The Rams scored 104 points to take fourth place when they hosted the Shoreline Conference Championship at Old Saybrook High School on May 25. Old Saybrook’s 4x400 relay team of Anna Brodeur, Catherine Minegar, Avery Rueckert, and Libby Stuart claimed first place with a time of 4:13.72 at the conference meet. Rueckert also finished first in the 200-meter dash by clocking in with a time of 26.52 seconds.

Ruckert also took second place in the 400 (59.90), while Minegar finished second in the 800 (2:28.97) for the Rams. Brodeur finished third in both the 200 (27.35) and the 400 (1:01.19).

Christina Grace took third place in the pole vault (8-0) for Old Saybrook. The Rams’ 4x800 relay of Molly Nygard, Minegar, Stuart, and Caitlin Wiley also came in third place (10:18.35).

Old Saybrook went on to score 53.5 points and finish fourth as a squad when the team participated in the Class S State Championship at Willow Brook Park on May 31. The Rams’ 4x100 relay of Colella, Rueckert, sophomore Sanai Barker, and Brodeur took first place with a time of 49.34. Colella grabbed the gold in the 300 hurdles by posting a mark of 47.48.

Brodeur finished second in the 400 (59.55) for Old Saybrook at states. The Rams’ 4x400 relay team of Colella, Minegar, Brodeur, and Ruckert finished in second place (4:18.17). The 4x800 relay of Stuart, Wiley, Nygard, and Minegar took fourth place (10:32.99).

Rueckert finished fourth in the 200 (25.66), while Grace came in fourth place for the pole vault (9-0) at the Class S meet. Minegar finished seventh in the 800 (2:29.66), and Nosal was eighth for the 200 (17.38). Nosal also finished eighth in the finals of the 100 hurdles (17.38).

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Old Saybrook boys’ outdoor track team hosted the Shoreline Conference Championship and then competed at the Class S State Championship in recent action. The Rams finished in 10th place by scoring 28 points at the Shoreline meet at Old Saybrook High School on May 25 after which they finished in 17th place with 16 points scored for states at Willow Brook Park on May 31.

Sophomore Bardh Thachi took second place in the discus with a throw of 139 feet-2 inches for Old Saybrook at the Shoreline Conference Championship. Thaci also claimed third place in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet-9 inches.

Thaci went on to finish fifth in both the discus (137-9) and the shot put (45-10.7.5) at the Class S State Championship. Mitchell Dipalma finished fifth for the finals of the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds. Sophomore Parker Cook finished sixth in the 1,600 (4:52.35) for the Rams.

Boys’ Golf

The Old Saybrook boys’ golf team hit the road to play Portland in its final regular-season matchup of the 2022 campaign. The Rams took a 150-171 defeat versus the Highlanders at Portland Golf Course to finish the year with an overall record of 2-11.
