Stettinger Defends Javelin Title at SCC Championship; Salato Finishes 3rd in the Event

Girls’ Outdoor Track

Junior Alice Stettinger took first place in the javelin at the SCC Championship for the second-straight season when she represented the East Haven girls’ outdoor track team in the meet last week. East Haven finished in 12th place by scoring 27 points when the SCC Championship was held at Bowen Field on May 23.

Stettinger recorded a top throw of 122 feet-2 inches on her way to defending her SCC title in the javelin. Stettinger won the event in dominating fashion, finishing 30 feet ahead of runner-up Emma Savoie of Jonathan Law (96-5). Stettinger had recently finished first in the javelin at the SCC East Sectional Championship with a toss of 120-1, marking the second year in a row that she won the javelin at sectionals.

Stettinger also took fourth place in the discus with a throw of 107-7 for the Yellowjackets in the SCC Championship. Stettinger also competed in the shot put and came in sixth place with a throw of 31-10.

Senior Morgan D’Auria finished in third place for the triple jump with a leap of 34-11 for East Haven. D’Auria also finished sixth in the long jump by hitting a distance of 16-8.25.

Senior Emily Mazzucco finished ninth in the long jump (16-2) and placed in the triple jump (31-4) for the Yellowjackets. Sophomore Aniya Franklin posted a throw of 29-8 in the shot put to take ninth place for the event.

Jessica Urban finished 10th in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles (18.18) at SCCs. Urban also finished 13th in the high jump (4-6) and came in 14th place in the long jump (15-5.75).

Sophomore Erica Canfield finished 14th (18.40) in the prelims of the 100 hurdles. Canfield also took 16th place in the 300 hurdles (52.96) for the Easties.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The East Haven boys’ outdoor track team sent three athletes to compete at the SCC Championship on May 23. Junior Dom Salato placed in two events to score 8 points for the Yellowjackets, who finished in 18th place at the meet at Bowen Field.

Salato claimed third place in the javelin by unleashing a throw of 158 feet-4 inches for East Haven at the SCC meet. Salato also finished seventh in the triple jump by reaching a distance of 41 feet in the event.

Freshman Dante Rodriquez came in 11th place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.89 seconds for the Easties in SCCs. Rodriguez also finished 17th in the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles by running a time of 18.78. Junior Ronald Koye placed 14th in the 110 hurdles prelims with a mark of 18.40.

Boys’ Golf

The East Haven boys’ golf team hosted Sheehan for a contest at Alling Memorial Golf Club on May 25. The Yellowjackets took a 184-199 loss to the Titans to put their record at 8-7-1 with one matchup left in the regular season.

Girls’ Tennis

The East Haven girls’ tennis team completed the 2022 season by playing a pair of matches last week. The Yellowjackets took a loss to Sheehan and then lost to North Branford to finish the year with an overall record of 6-14.

On May 23, East Haven took a 6-1 defeat against Sheehan in a home match. The following afternoon, the Yellowjackets faced North Branford on the road in their finale and dropped a 4-3 decision versus the Thunderbirds.
