Morgan Boys’ Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season Strong; Golf Team Notches Win Versus H-K

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Morgan boys’ lacrosse team notched victories in its final two games of the regular season to finish with a record of 9-7. The Huskies, who have qualified for Shorelines and states, earned home wins versus Old Saybrook and Cromwell to close out their regular season last week.

Morgan began the week by posting an 18-12 victory over Old Saybrook in a home game on May 17. Junior Ben McDonnell had a huge game by scoring 8 goals to go with 2 assists for Morgan. Senior Ethan Madura had 4 goals with 1 assist, sophomore Casey Corrigan scored 2 goals to go with 1 assist, while junior Jake Mastriano and junior Dylan Mazzarella both had 1 goal and 2 assists in the win.

Senior Aiden Madura scored 1 goal and had 1 assist for the Huskies. Senior Tyler Mucha scored a goal, and junior Jake Caprio and junior Tyler Weinzimmer contributed 1 assist apiece. Junior Abe Adams-Hull made 12 saves to get the win in net.

Two days later, the Huskies hosted Cromwell and defeated the Panthers by the final score of 15-2. Morgan is the No. 3 seed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and played at No. 2 Old Lyme in the semifinals on May 24 (after press time). With a win, Morgan would face the winner of No. 1 seed Haddam- Killingworth and No. 4 Valley Regional for the title at the Indian River Complex at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 26.

Boys’ Golf

The Morgan boys’ golf team hosted Haddam- Killingworth for a matchup at Clinton Country Club on May 18. The Huskies notched a 178-189 victory against the Cougars to improve their record to 10-3 on the season.

Senior Tyler Greenhouse earned medalist recognition by carding a score of 42 for the Huskies in the win. Senior Nick Schmidt shot a 44, while senior Cole Crowley and sophomore CJ Giuliano both finished with a score of 46. Senior Drew Nye posted a score of 51 for the round.

Girls’ Tennis

The Morgan girls’ tennis team wrapped up its regular season by splitting four home matches last week. The Huskies finished regular-season play with a record of 9-8 and have qualified for the Class S State Tournament.

On May 16, Morgan took a 7-0 home loss against Westbrook. The next day, the Huskies hosted Haddam-Killingworth and blanked the Cougars by a 7-0 score.

Morgan went on to face two different opponents at home on May 18. The Huskies took a 6-1 defeat versus Old Lyme and claimed a 4-3 victory over Cromwell to come away with a split on the afternoon.

Boys’ Tennis

The Morgan boys’ tennis team won one of its final three matches of the regular season to post an overall record of 9-7. The Huskies will be competing in the Class S State Tournament this week.

In its first match of the week, Morgan took a 4-3 defeat at Westbrook on May 16. Joseph Morse earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 singles match for the Huskies. Morgan’s No. 2 doubles team of Ryan Mansfield and Page Guptill claimed a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win; and the No. 3 team of Erik Barrera and Ryan Gray took their match by the final tally of 6-4, 6-2.

The next day, the Huskies played a road match versus Haddam-Killingworth and defeated the Cougars by a 6-1 score. Then on May 18, Morgan was back on the road to face Old Lyme and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Wildcats. Morse netted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles; and Nick Bausch notched a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 4 singles match for the Huskies.

Baseball

The Morgan baseball team hosted Manchester for its final matchup of the regular season on May 17. The Huskies took a 4-0 loss versus Manchester to complete their regular season with a record of 7-13.

Softball

The Morgan softball team took defeats in three road games during the final week of its regular season. Morgan finished the regular season with a record of 4-16.

Morgan took a 10-4 road loss against Hale-Ray on May 18. Then on May 20, the Huskies played a road game versus Haddam-Killingworth and took a 15-1 loss to the Cougars. Junior Kacey Edwards had an RBI single in the contest. The following day, Morgan took a 9-0 defeat at Guilford in its regular-season finale.
