Morgan Boys’ Lacrosse Defeats Valley Regional; Baseball Walks it Off Versus Portland

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Morgan boys’ lacrosse team moved to 7-7 this year after gaining a split of its two matchups last week. The Huskies defeated Valley Regional before taking a loss to North Branford in recent play.

Morgan kicked off the week by posting an 8-7 home victory versus Valley Regional on May 10. Senior Ethan Madura had 2 goals with 1 assist, while senior Aiden Madura and junior Jake Mastriano both scored 2 goals in the win. Junior Ben McDonnell had 1 goal with 1 assist, and sophomore Casey Corrigan also scored a goal for the Huskies.

Junior Jake Caprio scooped up 7 ground balls for Morgan. Mastriano and McDonnell both had 5 ground balls. Junior goalie Abe Adams-Hull stopped 16 shots to get the win in net.

Then on May 12, the Huskies played a road game against North Branford and took a 12-10 defeat versus the Thunderbirds.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Morgan girls’ lacrosse team took two defeats on the road last week and is now 2-11 on the season.

On May 10, the Huskies took a 19-6 loss to Valley Regional in a road game. Sophomore Maeve Madura scored 4 goals to go with 4 draw controls in the contest. Junior Brooke Carlisle scored 1 goal to go with 1 assist and 4 draw controls. Senior Cailin Steahle scored a 1 goal, and sophomore Ava Schmidt had 1 assist for Morgan. Junior Marin Stopkoski made 18 saves in net.

Then on May 14, Morgan traveled to Milford to take on Lauralton Hall and took an 11-6 loss against the Crusaders. Madura had 4 goals with 1 assist and had 4 draw controls for the Huskies. Carlisle scored 2 goals and 2 draw controls, while sophomore Emma Champagne contributed 1 assist. Stopkoski made 15 saves in the game.

Boys’ Tennis

The Morgan boys’ tennis team moved to 8-5 on the season after splitting a pair of matches last week.

Morgan earned a 7-0 win versus Old Saybrook in a road match on May 11. The next day, the Huskies hosted Valley Regional and lost to the Warriors by a 7-0 score.

Girls’ Tennis

The Morgan girls’ tennis team played one match last week when the Huskies faced Valley Regional on the road on May 12. The Huskies took a 5-2 defeat to the Warriors in Deep River to move to 7-6 this season.

Baseball

The Morgan baseball team moved to 7-12 on the season after winning one of its three games last week.

Morgan claimed a 4-3 home win versus Portland on May 11. The Huskies won the game in walk-off fashion when senior Bailey Goss draw a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to force in the winning run. Goss also an RBI single earlier in the contest.

Senior Ethan Ranaudo got the start on the mound and pitched the first 4 innings for the Huskies. Senior Garret Garbinski then came in for relief, after which Goss finished out the game on the mound.

Garbinski, senior Brady Fritz, and sophomore Robert Estabrook each had 2 hits for Morgan. Ranaudo had a pair of stolen bases in the victory.

The next day, the Huskies took a 1-0 road loss to North Branford. Then on May 14, Morgan dropped a 3-1 decision against East Lyme in another road game.

Softball

The Morgan softball squad had three contests last week and claimed one victory to put its record at 4-13 for the spring season.

The Huskies started off their week by posting a 16-4 home victory over Old Saybrook on May 10. Junior Sarah Williams pitched a complete game with 7 strikeouts for Morgan in the win. Junior Sydney Robison went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI at the plate. Junior Kacey Edwards went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 1 stolen base, while junior Sydney Giuliano was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.

The next day, the Huskies took a 15-0 loss to Guilford in a road game. Then on May 12, Morgan was back on the road to face Middletown and took an 8-0 defeat. Edwards went 3-for-4 with 2 stolen bases, and junior Angelina Herbst went 3-for-4 with 1 stolen base for the Huskies. Junior Sofie Passante was 2-for-3 on the day. Williams recorded 8 strikeouts on the mound for Morgan.

Boys’ Golf

The Morgan boys’ golf team took two home losses last week to move to 9-3 this season.

In its first match of the week, Morgan took a 170-182 defeat against Portland in a home match at Clinton Country Club. Senior Drew Nye and senior Tyler Greenhouse both carded a score of 44 for Morgan. Sophomore CJ Giuliano shot a 46, sophomore Jack Nye finished with a 48, and senior Nick Schmidt posted a score of 49 for the Huskies.

The following afternoon, the Huskies hosted Hand and lost to the Tigers by the final score of 159-168. Giuliano recorded Morgan’s low total for the day with a score of 37 on the afternoon. Schmidt shot a 43, Drew Nye and senior Cole Crowley both scored a 44, and Greenhouse carded a 50 in the contest.
