East Haven Golf Team Sweeps Week with 3 Victories; Softball Squad Boosts Record to 9-2

Boys’ Golf

The East Haven boys’ golf team improved its record to 6-2 on the season by posting three victories last week. The Yellowjackets scored wins over Wilcox Tech, Hillhouse, and North Haven to make for a perfect week on the greens.

East Haven started off its week by sweeping a home meet at Alling Memorial Golf Club on April 25. The Yellowjackets finished with a team score of 191 to notch wins versus Wilcox Tech (207) and Hillhouse (259) at the meet. Senior Ethan Roach finished with a low score of 41 to earn medalist honors for East Haven. Senior Nick Sorrentino shot a 47, junior Domenic Plano recorded a score of 51, and senior Norah Rome finished with a 52 for the Yellowjackets.

Two days later, East Haven claimed a 191-199 road victory against North Haven at Tradition Golf Club. Plano shot a 46 to share medalist honors with freshman Will Sagnella of North Haven. Roach scored a 47, sophomore Mike Savo shot a 48, Sorrentino finished with a 50, and Rome posted a score of 51 for East Haven.

Softball

The East Haven softball team had a busy week with four ballgames on its schedule last week. The Yellowjackets came away with victories in three of those matchups to improve their record to 9-2 for the season.

East Haven started off the week by earning a 4-2 home victory versus North Haven on April 25. Senior Emilee Bishop and fellow senior Lena Barthel both hit a home run for the Easties. Bishop had 2 hits in the game, as did junior Arielle Dupree.

The following day, East Haven defeated Branford by a 13-1 score in 5 innings in a road game. Junior Lily Gagnon pitched a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts to the lead the Yellowjackets to the victory. Barthel, Bishop, Gagnon, and sophomore Gianna Fowler all hit a double in the win. Fowler had 2 hits total.

On April 28, East Haven hosted Waterford and took a 9-1 loss in non-conference action. Gagnon allowed 4 earned runs and struck out 6 in the contest. Barthel, Gagnon, and freshman Gianna Santoro had 1 hit apiece.

The day after that, the Yellowjackets were on the road to face Hand and notched a 12-6 win against the Tigers. Gagnon earned her third win on the mound while striking out 12 hitters for the Easties, whose offense exploded for 18 hits in the victory. Barthel had 4 hits, including 3 triples, with 6 RBI for East Haven. Autumn Clancy collected 3 hits, while Santoro, Fowler, junior Adriana Franceschi, and freshman Lexi Heaphy all had 2 hits. Franceschi, Dupree, and senior Jilien Ayala each hid a double for Head Coach Ed Crisafi’s club.

Baseball

The East Haven baseball team took three defeats last week to move to 1-10 on the season. The Yellowjackets lost contests against Hamden, Lyman Hall, and Branford in recent action.

On April 25, East Haven took a 13-0 defeat to Hamden in a road game. Two days later, the Yellowjackets hosted Lyman Hall and lost the contest by a 17-4 final. Then on April 29, the Easties played a home game versus Branford and took an 11-10 loss to the Hornets.

Boys’ Tennis

The East Haven boys’ tennis team played two matches last week and came away with split of the set to move to 2-8 in the 2022 season. The Yellowjackets earned a victory versus Career and then lost to West Haven in last week’s action.

East Haven kicked off its week by notching a 4-3 road win over Career on April 27. Junior Santiago Zapada claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 singles match to lead the Yellowjackets to the win. East Haven also received forfeit victories in the three doubles spots.

On April 29, East Haven hosted West Haven and took a 6-1 defeat against the Blue Devils.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Branford-East Haven (Bfd-EH) boys’ lacrosse team played one game last week when it hosted Wilbur Cross for a contest on April 28. Bfd-EH notched a 17-4 victory versus the Governors at Branford High School to improve the team’s overall record to 5-5 on the season.
