Hand Boys’ Lacrosse, Baseball Each Take 2 of 3

Girls' Lacrosse

The Hand girls' lacrosse team gained a split of two home games last week to put its record at 4-3 on the year.

Hand earned a 12-9 home win over Amity in its first game of the week on April 19. Three days later, the Tigers hosted Cheshire and lost to the Rams by the score of 18-8 at the Surf Club.

Junior Shawn Staak had 3 goals with 1 assist, and senior Kacie Wines also scored 3 goals for Hand in its game against Cheshire. Junior Lydia Doraz and freshman Addison Kosiewicz both scored a goal, while senior Reilly Dolan had an assist.

Boys' Lacrosse

The Hand boys' lacrosse squad claimed victory in two of its three games last week to improve to 5-2 this season. The Tigers defeated East Lyme and Xavier before taking a loss to Fairfield Ludlowe in their recent contests.

Hand started off its week by posting a 17-5 win versus East Lyme in a home game on April 19. Junior Sam Sisk had 2 goals with 4 assists, junior Will Kleine scored 3 goals to go with 2 assists, and senior Patch Flanagan had 2 goals and 3 assists in the win.

Senior Kevin Sandor had 1 goal with 2 assists, junior Spiro Maniatis and freshman PJ O'Hanlon both scored 2 goals, and senior Mike McGuirk had 1 goal and 1 assist for Hand. Senior Jack Balletto, senior Seth Sweitzer, senior Joe Cozza, and junior Jameson McParland added 1 goal apiece, while senior Matt Rossi had 1 assist in the victory.

Sophomore Jack Orlando made 6 saves in net for the Tigers. Fellow sophomore Sean Lynch stopped 4 shots in goal.

Two days later, the Tigers hosted Xavier and notched an 18-7 victory over the Falcons. Then on April 23, Hand earned a 10-6 win verus Fairfield Ludlowe in a road game.

Baseball

The Hand baseball team improved its record to 7-2 on the season by winning two of its three games last week. The Tigers claimed victories over Wilbur Cross and Sheehan to go with a loss against Fairfield Prep in recent action.

In their first game of the week, the Tigers took an 8-1 home loss to Fairfield Prep on April 18. Sophomore Ben Kuja went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI single for Hand. Senior Connor Powell also had a double in the game.

Two days later, Hand claimed a 13-3 victory at Wilbur Cross. Senior Will Kranzler went 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI for the Tigers. Senior Evan Mastrobattisto was 2-for-3 with 4 runs scored, while Powell hit a 2-run double and also scored 4 runs. Senior Jeff Pinover had 3 hits, and junior Troy Piascik was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Sophomore Brandon SanMarco pitched 4 innings to get the win on the mound for Hand. Sophomore Johnny Reh and sophomore Owen Scarice combined to finish out the game in relief.

Hand finished its week by posting a 5-4 road win versus Sheehan on April 22. The Tigers trailed the Titans 4-0 before scoring the final 5 runs of the game to emerge victorious.

Senior Ryan Knight notched the win on the mound after striking out 6 hitters in 6 innings pitched. Senior David Antonetti tossed a scoreless seventh inning to get the save.

Mastrobattisto went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Tigers. Kuja had a double and a triple, while Pinover went 2-for-3 to help Head Coach Travis LaPointe's club finish its week with a win.

Boys' Tennis

The Hand boys' tennis team took its first defeat of the season when the Tigers lost a contest against Avon last week. On April 18, the Tigers hosted Avon and dropped a 4-3 decision to the Falcons to move to 5-1 on the year.

Senior Sebastien Lowy claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 singles match for Hand when the team faced Avon. The Tigers' No. 1 doubles team of senior Will deChabert and senior Will Fumex notched a 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 victory; and the No. 2 team of senior Robbie Washburne and senior Patrick Hennessey triumphed by a 6-2, 6-4 score.

Boys' Volleyball

The Hand boys' volleyball team split a pair of matchups last week to move to 2-5 on the season.

On April 18, Hand took a 3-1 defeat versus Shelton in a home match. Two days later, the Tigers traveled to Woodbridge to face Amity and defeated the Spartans by the final score of 3-2.
