Westbrook’s Tennis Teams Keep Notching Victories

Girls’ Tennis

The Westbrook girls’ tennis team won two of its three matches last week to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Knights took a loss to Old Lyme, but bounced back with victories over Portland and Haddam- Killingworth to finish the week strong.

Westbrook took a 6-1 defeat against Old Lyme in a home match on April 11. Senior Julia Farnoli earned an 0-6, 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 1 singles match for Westbrook.

Then on April 13, the Knights played a road match versus Portland and blanked the Highlanders by a 7-0 score. Farnoli notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Senior Gianni Salisbury earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles; freshman Megan Bache claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles; and junior Caroline Dias claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 singles match.

Westbrook’s No. 1 doubles team of senior Bree Koplas and junior Delaney Belcourt posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of senior Jami Sacco and sophomore Olivia Palumbo also won their match by a 6-0, 6-0 score. The No. 3 doubles team of senior Xan Zanzalari and junior Adriana Stranieri emerged victorious after winning the first set by the score of 6-1.

The next day, Westbrook netted a 7-0 victory over Haddam-Killingworth in another road matchup. Farnoli, Salisbury, and Bache all earned 6-0, 6-0 victories at the top three singles spots. Junior Ava Ciarcia netted a 6-4, 6-1 win in the No. 4 singles contest.

Koplas and Belcourt prevailed by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 1 doubles for the Knights. The team of Zanzalari and Stranieri notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Boys’ Tennis

The Westbrook boys’ tennis team improved its record to 4-0 by netting a trio of victories last week. The Knights posted wins over Old Lyme, Portland, and Haddam-Killingworth to stay perfect on the young campaign.

Westbrook started off its week by claiming a road 5-2 win against Old Lyme on April 11. Then on April 13, the Knights notched a 7-0 shutout at Portland on the road. Westbrook wrapped up its week by earning a 6-1 home victory versus Haddam-Killingworth on April 14.

Softball

The Westbrook-Portland (W-P) co-op softball team lost two games last week to move to 1-4 on the year.

On April 13, W-P hosted Valley Regional and took a 22-0 loss to the Warriors. The following day, the Knights played a road game versus Cromwell and took a 22-0 defeat.

Baseball

The Westbrook baseball team took three recent defeats and is now 0-6 on the season.

On April 11, Westbrook took a 16-1 home loss to Hale-Ray. Two days later, the Knights took a 25-1 defeat to Valley Regional in a road game. The next day, Westbrook hosted Cromwell and lost to the Panthers by a 13-0 score.
