T-Birds’ Boys’ Lacrosse Off to 2-0 Start; Girls’ Tennis Opens Season

Boys’ Lacrosse

The North Branford boys’ lacrosse team is 2-0 to begin its season after claiming victories in its first two games of the campaign. The Thunderbirds netted wins versus Old Saybrook and Cromwell last week for a stellar start to the spring.

North Branford notched a 13-6 home victory against Old Saybrook in its first game of the year on April 5. Senior Jake Saldutti scored 6 goals to go with 2 assists for the T-Birds in the win. Fellow senior Joey Marra had 3 goals and 4 assists for North Branford.

Junior Ian Kamienski scored 1 goal and had 2 assists in the victory. Junior Elias Defaranos, junior Jace Kamienski, and freshman Shane Esposito added 1 goal apiece. Junior goalie Dradon Brindisi made 6 saves to get the win in net.

Two days later, the T-Birds hosted Cromwell and defeated the Panthers by the score of 13-2.

Girls’ Tennis

The North Branford girls’ tennis team hosted Old Saybrook for its first match of the year on April 4, dropping a 5-2 decision against the Rams.

Liz Caplan is back for her second season as the head coach of North Branford girls’ tennis. The T-Birds finished with a record of 2-13 for the 2021 campaign.

Baseball

The North Branford baseball team hosted Haddam-Killingworth for a Shoreline Conference contest on April 4. The Thunderbirds took a 10-1 defeat to the Cougars at North Branford High School to move to 0-2 on the year. Junior Cam Garrett had a hit with an RBI for the T-Birds in the game.

Softball

The North Branford softball team moved to 0-3 on the season after taking two recent defeats. The T-Birds dropped road games against Haddam-Killingworth and Cromwell in last week’s action.

On April 4, North Branford took a 9-2 defeat in a game at H-K. Three days later, the T-Birds were back on the road to face Cromwell and lost the contest by a 2-0 score.
