Deep Horseshoe League Ready for 67th Season

The Deep River Horseshoe League (DRHL) will be holding its 67th season this year. The DRHL will host league play at 5 p.m. on every Thursday beginning on April 28 at the First Congregational Church in Deep River. The league is open for men and women aged 20 to 80.

The DRHL has 18 teams that compete on nine pits. Every team features three players from each of the A, B, and C Divisions and plays six matches per week. The objective is to toss the shoe around or within six inches of a metal stake from 40 feet away. Putting the shoe around the stake is worth three points, and getting it within six inches is worth one point. Each game consists of 12 frames, after which the scores are totaled at the end. The season ends in August with the top eight teams competing for the championship.
