Nighthawks Send Two Throwers to the State Open; Girls’ Hoops Loses in SCC Tourney

Boys’ Indoor Track

The North Haven boys’ indoor track team sent two athletes to compete in the State Open Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 19. Juniors Cole DeCusati and Ethan Anderson represented the Nighthawks by participating in the shot put at the meet.

DeCusati finished in 11th place for the shot put by posting a throw of 45 feet-4.75 inches at the State Open. DeCusati had previously won the shot put at the Class M State Championship with a toss of 46 feet-4.75 inches. Also at the Open, Anderson came in 17th place for the shot put with a throw of 42 feet-2 inches.

Girls’ Basketball

The North Haven girls’ basketball team gained a split of its last two regular-season games before competing in the SCC Tournament last week. The Nighthawks took a loss against Hillhouse in the first round of the SCC tourney to put their overall record at 9-12 heading into the Class L State Tournament this week.

North Haven took a 50-36 loss versus Cheshire in a road game on Feb. 14. Junior Damaria-Williams scored 13 points to go with 9 rebounds and 4 steals for the Nighthawks. Freshman Olivia Ball had 8 points in the contest.

The following day, the Nighthawks hosted East Haven and edged out the Yellowjackets by the score of 47-44. Junior Livi Johnson had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals for North Haven. Williams-Davis scored 12 points and also had 9 boards with 2 steals n the victory.

Then on Feb. 18, No. 10 seed North Haven played 7th-seeded Hillhouse in the first round of the SCC Tournament New Haven. The Nighthawks took a 66-49 loss against the Academics in the contest.

Boys’ Basketball

The North Haven boys’ basketball team took defeats against Hamden and Xavier during the final week of its regular season. The Nighthawks finished the campaign with an overall record of 2-18.

On Feb. 15, North Haven played a road game against Hamden and lost the contest by the score of 91-54. Three days later, the Nighthawks were back on the road to face Xavier and took a 54-46 loss to the Falcons.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The Greater New Haven (GNH) Warriors boys’ swimming and diving team traveled to Fairfield University to take on Fairfield Prep for its regular-season finale on Feb. 15. The Warriors battled Prep to a 93-93 tie in a battle of SCC heavyweights to finish the regular season with an overall record of 8-2-1. GNH will be competing in the SCC Championship this week.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Amity-Cheshire-North Haven (A-C-NH) completed its regular season by losing two games last week to finish with a record of 3-14 this year.

A-C-NH took a 2-1 home loss to the Hand co-op squad at Lou Astorino Ice Arena on Feb. 16. Then on Feb. 19, the Blades played a road game against Simsbury and took a 10-3 defeat at the International Skating Center of Connecticut.
