The 2022 Connecticut Shoreline Men’s 95+ Tournament was held at the Essex Platform Tennis Club on Jan. 22, and the event proved a great success. Participants from seven different paddle clubs that featured combined team ages ranging from 96 to 123 years old competed in the tournament. Madison residents Geoff Cartier and John Paternoster, competing for Essex Platform Tennis Club, could not be stopped and took the tournament title.

Cartier and Paternoster defeated formidable opponents Matt Arciero and Aram Buldoc from Suffield Country Club in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Essex resident Kevin Joyce and Brent Dickman of Madison bested Bryan Adinolfi and Glenn Marshall in a grueling battle in the other semifinal. Then, Cartier and Paternoster prevailed over Joyce and Dickman in the final to once again claim the championship title.

The consolation final featured all teams from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Mike Shields and Jonathan Spencer won a three-set battle against the team of Larry Eagan and Steve McKenna. After losing to Adinolfi and Marshall in the quarterfinals, Phil Johnson of Guilford and Glenn Ufland went on to win the quarterfinal reprieve. The other Phil Johnson, hailing from Rhode Island, and his partner Dan Stanton were champions of the consolation reprieve.
