Old Saybrook Boys’ Hoops Gets Win Against Valley; Girls Lose a Few Games

Boys’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball team played three games last week and came away with one win to move to 6-3 on the year. The Rams defeated Valley Regional before losing to Cromwell and Stonington in their recent contests.

Old Saybrook kicked off its week by earning a 42-35 home win over Valley Regional on Jan. 18. The Rams held 12-7 lead after the first quarter, but Valley outscored Old Saybrook 13-6 in the second quarter to take a 20-18 lead into halftime. Old Saybrook came out strong in the second half by outscoring the Warriors in both the third (10-5) and fourth (14-10) quarters to walk off the floor with the seven-point victory.

Junior Ryan Stratton scored 15 points for Old Saybrook in the win. Senior Riley Lawson and junior Aaron Tolve both scored 8 points, while junior Brady Kulmann chipped in with 7 points for Head Coach Chris Perras’s squad.

Then on Jan. 21, the Rams were on the road to face Cromwell and took a 71-47 defeat to the Panthers. Tolve scored 16 points, and Stratton had 14 points for the Rams. Sophomore Wes Nobile added 7 points.

The following day, Old Saybrook played a road game against Stonington and dropped an 80-63 decision. Tolve netted 30 points for Old Saybrook in the game. Stratton scored 14 points, and sophomore Auggie Albert had 11 points.

Girls’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook girls’ basketball team moved to 2-8 after losing three games last week.

On Jan. 18, the Rams took a 59-25 road loss versus Valley Regional. Then on Jan. 21, Old Saybrook hosted Cromwell and took a 64-26 defeat against the Panthers.

The day after that, the Rams faced Old Lyme for a home game and lost by a 36-18 score. Freshman Breleigh Cooke scored 11 points for Old Saybrook in the contest.
