Morgan Boys’ Hoops Takes Two; Track Squads Compete in Shoreline Meet

Boys’ Basketball

The Morgan boys’ basketball team posted a pair of home wins last week to boost its record to 4-3 on the year. The Huskies claimed wins versus Old Saybrook and Old Lyme in recent play.

In its first matchup of the week, Morgan hosted Old Saybrook and claimed a 76-57 victory over the Rams on Jan. 10. Then on Jan. 14, the Huskies played a home game versus Old Lyme and notched a 67-47 win versus the Wildcats.

Morgan held a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and was up 32-22 over Old Lyme at halftime. Taking a 43-33 lead into the fourth quarter, the Huskies put the game away by outscoring Old Lyme 24-14 during the final frame.

Junior Cooper Galdenzi scored 25 points for Morgan, while senior Alex Fratamico had 20 points in the victory. Senior Andrew Nye scored 14 points for the Huskies.

Boys’ Indoor Track

The Morgan boys’ indoor track team came in seventh place when it competed at the Shoreline League Meet last week. The Huskies scored 19 points to take seventh place at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Jan. 13.

Morgan’s 1,600 sprint medley relay of senior Garret Garbinski, senior Fabio Siliveira, senior Tyler Mucha, and senior Jason Dombrowski finished in second place (4:14.80). The 4x200 relay of Garbinski, Siliveira, senior Alex Gallardo, and Mucha finished in third place (1:39.50). Sophomore Dylon Marshall took fourth place in the high jump (5-0).

Previously, Morgan took part in the Haddam-Killingworth Invitational on Jan. 10. The Huskies’ 4x200 relay of Garbinski, Siliveira, Gallardo, and Mucha finished in second place (1:39.61) at the meet.

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Morgan girls’ indoor track team finished in eighth place with 10 points scored at last week’s Shoreline League Meet.

Junior Logan Pernal took fifth place in the 55 (8.24), while freshman Natalie Estabrook finished fifth in the 600 (2:02.66) for the Huskies. Morgan’s 4x200 relay of Pernal, junior Camryn Coffey, junior Brooke Carlislie, and senior Emilia O’Neil came in third place (2:04.42).

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven co-op boys’ ice hockey team played two games last week and split the set to move to 6-1 on the season. The Yellowjackets took a defeat to West Haven and then defeated the Eastern CT Eagles in recent play.

On Jan. 12, the East Haven co-op squad took a 4-0 road loss versus West Haven at Bennett Rink. Three days later, the Yellowjackets played a road game against the Eastern CT Eagles at RoseGarden Ice Arena in Norwich. East Haven posted a 3-0 shutout over the Eagles to earn their sixth win of the year.
