H-K Co-op Gymnastics Teams Sweeps a Tri-Meet; Boys’ Hoops Takes a Few Defeats

Girls’ Gymnastics

The H-K/Morgan/Westbrook (H-K/M/W) co-op girls’ gymnastics team swept a tri-meet at Foran High School on Jan. 9. The team posted a score of 127.5 points to defeat both Mercy (117.75) and Foran (104.0) at the meet.

Junior Julianna Gagliardi of H-K finished first in the all-around with a score of 34.2 for H-K/M/W. Gagliardi took first place on the vault (8.9) and floor (8.9) to go with second-place finishes in the bars (8.1) and beam (8.1) on her way to placing second all-around.

Westbrook sophomore Hannah Freund took third place in the all-around with a score of 31.75 for the Cougars. Freund finished second on vault (8.15) and floor (8.4) and also placed third for the bars (7.2) at the meet. H-K sophomore Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones finished second on the vault (8.1) for H-K/M/W. Morgan junior Megan Cafferty finished in third place for both the beam (8.15) and the floor (8.25).

Previously, H-K/M/W competed against three teams in a meet at Flip-Flop Gymnastics on Dec. 30. The team posted a total score of 90.45 points and took defeats against Mercy (128.80), Valley Regional (123.85), and Stonington (120.9) at the meet.

Boys’ Basketball

The H-K boys’ basketball team moved to 0-5 on the season after taking a few recent defeats.

The Cougars took a 78-29 home loss to the Sport & Medical Sciences Academy on Dec. 21. In last week’s action, H-K took a 53-27 defeat against Cromwell in a home game on Jan. 3. The next day, H-K hosted East Hampton and lost the contest by a 72-45 score. On Jan. 8, the Cougars took a 71-35 road loss versus Morgan.

Girls’ Basketball

The H-K girls’ basketball squad has a record of 0-4 thus far in the winter season. After losing their first two games of the campaign, the Cougars took defeats versus North Branford (54-48) and Somers (49-31) in more recent action. H-K had a game with Morgan scheduled for Jan. 7, but the contest was postponed due to snow.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Rocky Hill/Middletown/Plainville/H-K (RH/M/P/H-K) co-op boys’ ice hockey team stands with a record of 2-2 for the winter campaign.

After splitting its first two games, the team earned a 9-0 win versus Southington-Coginchaug-Westbrook and then took an 8-5 loss to Enfield-East Granby-Stafford. Last week, RH/M/P/H-K saw its Jan. 3 matchup with Woodstock Academy get postponed, after which the team took a 4-2 versus Hall in a home game at Champion Skating Center in Cromwell on Jan. 8.
