Blades Gain a Split of First Two Games


The Amity-North Haven-Cheshire (A-NH-C) girls’ ice hockey team started off the 2021 season by gaining a split of its first two games last week. The Blades took a loss to Greenwich in their opener and then defeated Guilford for a 1-1 start to the year.

A-NH-C took a 3-0 road loss against Greenwich in its first game of the season on Dec. 6. Greenwich scored one goal in the first period and two goals in the second period to come away with the win. Sophomore goalie Ginny Currello made 39 saves in net for the Blades in the game.

On Dec. 11, the Blades hosted Guilford and prevailed by a 3-2 score at Lou Astorino Ice Arena. A-NH-C took a 1-0 lead when Tierney Cox scored from Ellen Barto in the second period. Guilford scored the next two goals, but the Blades tied the game at 2 when Carly Silbert scored from junior Sami Drane and senior Ilana Leyner later in the period.

The Blades went up 3-2 when senior Avery DePodesta scored on an assist by Adele Bidon during the third period. Currello made 41 saves in net to help A-NH-C hang on for the victory.
